I am the type of person that tries to see people as inherently good. It is my understanding that in Sikhi we are supposed to see all as children of God. Their souls are good, but they have accumulated dirt upon themselves through bad actions and we have a hard time seeing their good qualities sometimes. One of my non-sikh friends says some people are bad people who occasionally choose to do good things- these people are not good people who do bad things. I've heard quite a few people who tell me "one day you will see it the same as us." I kind of really hope i don't see it that way one day, i don't want to let go of the part of me that sees others as good and deserving of love and compassion and forgiveness. Given that all these people are older than me and have more life experience though i wonder if i am wrong. Are there good people and bad people, is my friend right about that? When we really get to know people we realize that behind everyone who has done a bad action (even murderers) there will be people who love them and say good things about them. What about all the people who battled against the Gurus, like Aurangzeb. They did evil things... do we call them bad/evil, did the Gurus call them bad or evil?

People are just people. Some are immature souls who may have just come into a human body for the first time. They may be mean, selfish, bloodthirsty, etc. because that is the tendency (samskar) they brought with them from their previous incarnation. As the soul learns and evolves, the human becomes more sensitive and subtle. There are many infantile (unripe) souls incarnated on the planet. May all be blessed to evolve and know that:

What you are is Ik Ong Kar, Satinaam is what you'll be, Waheguru is inside you, And It is inside me.

This planet earth is Karam Khand. It's where the work gets done. It's where the karmas get paid.

Choose carefully who you spend your time with. Guru Ji will bring you many sorts of people and you will learn many things, but the ones you choose to be with... that's up to you. Choose wisely. Be with those who do not want anything from you. Be with those who inspire you and raise you up.

As Not at all Punjabi said, "“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” - Hamlet

"Good are those who are seen to be good at God’s Gate. Those who are still caught up in their karma sit and weep." - ANG 15

Good and Bad people are just the definitions given by us only. If a person does good deeds he/she is referred to as a good person and if he/she does bad deeds which is socially not acceptable in the society then that person is referred to as a bad person. Obviously, souls within us are pure and good but what matters is the deed of the human.

Let me clarify one more thing that even the deeds which we do are pre-written by the Akal Purakh itself before the human is born in this world. For example, if we utter WaheGuru then technically it is the WaheGuru's wish and Hukam for us and because of which we are able to utter WaheGuru. So, similarly all the good actions or bad actions are actually HIS Command only. We Humans are mere toys only.

There was complete void in the Galaxy but the day Akal Purakh decided to create the Humans he created the Solar System and hence this World in which we live in and not only this World but innumerable Worlds he created. Gurbani says so, "Patala Patal Lakh Agasa Agas" meaning countless the Worlds beneath, countless the Worlds above. At that day itself HE decided the day on which the end of the Solar System would be. We humans and other creatures in this World are like Actors acting as per the directions given to us by the Director that is "Akal Purakh".

Splitting between the forces of good and evil the whole world was constructed. Birth, existence and death, in this loop nature manifested itself. Somewhere tall mountains others deep oceans all under the spherical sky Evil and good created by the same nature, was then forced to fight each other forever.
