As a sikh man I have a dilemma I used to date this sikh lady, we broke up but I can't seem to stop thinking about her nonstop. What can I do to forget her? While we dated we were in love now her memories haunt me daily. How can I forget her and move on with my life? I have been more depressed since we broke up. Just thinking about her I feel like my heart has shattered. I don't know what to know I have been very sad, I didn't share my feelings about her to anyone. Now I have lost all contact with her, but she till remains a vivid part of me, how can I overcome my depression and sadness thinking about her?

It's likely that this women has forgotten all about you. A Sikhi life should be dedicated to the constant jaap of Waheguru. Worldly relations and attachment to them will always cause you pain. You must ask the giver of inner peace to calm the desires of your mind. That women does not belong to you, she belongs to God, so you must not feel the pain of this separation. Try to feel the pain of your separation from God, because he is you mother, father, sister, brother, wife, and so forth. God will send other people into your life that will bring you happiness. All I can say is that just don't try to get so attached in your relationships, because people will always hurt and deceive. It is only the Almighty you can truly trust and love dearly in a world full of falsehood.

I personally agree somewhat too pawan veer ji. I think the basic question is: Do you need her in order too be happy? Is the answer yes, then you've come to the right place asking about these questions.

Think of the movie Dil Chahta Hai.

How Akshay Khanna shows the sand leaving the gaps of the fingers, you can't do anything. The only thing you can do, is brush off the sand that is still clinging to you. It is all... in your hands.

Who is happy, and who is sad?

Who, as sunmukh, turns toward the Guru, and who, as vaymukh, turns away from the Guru?

How can one meet the Lord? How is one separated from Him? Who can reveal the way to me?

Guru Sahib later replies...

The Gurmukh is happy, while the self-willed manmukh is sad.

The Gurmukh turns toward the Guru, and the self-willed manmukh turns away from the Guru.

The Gurmukh is united with the Lord, while the manmukh is separated from Him. The Gurmukh reveals the way.
