I asked a Q about meditation and got really helpful answers, I got recommended a link for meditation tips and there was a paragraph about meditating to discover a past life, ordinarily I would have been really interested in this but I've learned that following your mind and not the Guru results in nothing good, so I wanted to know, is it bad to want to find out, even just for curiosities sake? I want to know what my past karams are and try to make sense of the situation I got myself into in this life.

The past is gone. It does not exist. Guru will reveal to you all opportunities to pay your karamas with grace. Your job is to elevate yourself and pay close attention to the opportunities the Guru is presenting to you in this life.

OK, PAST LIVES ARE IMPORTANT. What you did in the past definitely has an impression upon this life, but you have the free will in changing your destiny. When you begin to spiritually progress, Sant Baldev Ji explains that like a photo album you will see your past lives. You will experience all the anchor points that make you. Some will be painful and in some you will see why you were put on this path. Why Guru Ji chose you as his Sikh. These experiences all come by Grace, but to experience this you must meditate on NAM. Nothing else will reveal anything to you as the shabad guru will. So, you should continue meditating and when the time is right, Guru Ji himself will tell you about your past lives and your situation.

Its all a scam of the mind, unless god gives it to you, but if you go out a purposly try to, it'll be fake. It is made up by the mind, which doesn't exist anyway, only waheguru (the hand) and the souls (the fingers, parts of the hand).
