I am a college going girl. I took amrit a few days back. I take chuni to cover my head in college and public areas. In my college no other girl covers her head, I feel uncomfortable while going college. I feel concious even when nobody is noticing me. Is it necessary to cover head after taking amrit. Please reply soon WJKK WJKF

Taking amrit means you will literally die for your faith in a bloody death as did numerous Sikh matyrs. When Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa and amrit sanchar on Vaisakhi, he didn't make it as a casual baptism as within other religions. Khalsa is more than that. Sikhi is universal, and can be applied to yourself, but to be a true Khalsa you must find its path that is thin as a blade, and as hard as one before you apply it in a personal way to your certain situations. If you cannot wear a chuni, how could you ever die at the sword?
So many people think amrit is just a ritualistic practice done in your late teens/early twenties when you adopt the panj kakkars. This is not so. Many dont agree with this, but historical accounts state that on April 14 1699, Guru Gobind Singh chopped of five men's heads and sewed them on over the course of a few hours. He place amrit in each of their mouths and they spoke "Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh". These men, the original panj piare, who were quite literally killed held their faith out even in an hour that had been perceived as dark. The taking of amrit protects you, if you agree to be protected. Out of tens of thousands who went to see Guru Gobind Singh that day, only five men came forward. Would you have gone up that day? If not - it isn't your time to take amrit. The panj kakkars are to show the world that you in fact are part of the Khalsa, and in societies where not many people cover their heads, an act of bravery.
Now you say you wear a chuni. Don't where just a chuni just because it'll fit into society better than a turban. Where a turban, and maybe also a chuni if you wish. It is Guru Gobind Singh's hukham to where a turban, and to be equal. Why should women not where a turban because they're women? The soul has no gender!
Ease your way into taking amrit one day, don't rush it. Realize that there is no self, and that it is just a mental barrier. Be ready to die at the sword, and then you may re-take amrit. Still where the panj kakkars as well until your day of amrit and onwards as good practice for bravery.

As a Singh who ties a Dastaar and realizes it's worth and meaning I would not be comfortable with out it! It has almost become a part of me. I am not amritdhari yet so cannot comment a great deal with my limited knowledge at present.
When you have received amrit is your head NOT suppose to be covered? wearing of chunni is fine Phenji but with a Dastaar your head is covered all the time this is more practical more secure keeps hair clean and safe plus you are carrying the Sikh image. Straight away you are recognized and seen as a Sikh.
Finally Phenji when Wearing Dastaar you have same equality and status as the male Singh, this is very important because our females are no less than a man and in my view are to be treated fairly and with respect.
Wkwf . It's been 1.5 months I changed myself into khalsa, I cover my head with scarfs n stalls. Don't you feel different that only you are the one who can be recognised in your class and the first sight after entering the class goes on you. I thing our religion is small people are not aware of our customs it is our duty to tell them about our religion our history every thing in Sikh religion has sth very deep if understood . Guru Gobind Singh ji established Sikhism only to give us different identity , to separate us from the other religions. In short I will don't be shy or feel uncomfortable it's your religion . You know we learn many things from people like Muslims they don't care what other people think but what ever their religion say they do it blindly they where their religious dresses irrespective of the fact how they look , they pray no matter at what place they are I saw in the movie 'my name is khan'' . I just want to say don't care about the people you don't owe them anything what I feel is in their eyes your reputation will be increased as you will be so particular about your religion. Gurfateh

Khalse da matlab hi eho he , jo aam loka vich na rale Khalsa is a special identity which never mix with normal people, so remind it always and feel proud to be a khalsa,
