I want you people to think of this, why is it so important to have a girlfriend or a boyfriend. I personally reckon it is a complete waste of time. I mean really, come on. We are Lions and Lionesses. Seriously! I'm pretty sure there are other things to be worrying about other than the opposite sex like oh, I donno, GOD for instance.

If one is connected with God and is indulged within the Shabad of the Guru I'm sure that that haing girlfriend or a boyfriend would be last thing on there mind. Actually, it wouldn't even be in their mind.

And if your saying that it the 21st century its kool to be in a relationship then why is it that you are not saying that oh its the 21st century lets blend in with the crowd and and cut or hair and become westernized and forget all the amazing kurbania done by our brave Sikh sisters and brothers and just forget all of the teachings of the Guru? I mean COME ON! Seriously people, think about it. This life is to worship God and to become one with God. Why don't you just leave the whole soul mate thing to God who gave you this life and has everything planed out for you just chill and mediate every thing is going to be kool. Oh and I 100% agree with PeaceHappinessSikhism.

Oh and even if you do happen to fall in love with a Gurshikh girl or a guy you should talk to them and tell your parents that you like them you parents need to know or things can go bad but most of all just trust your guru and don't do anything that you are going to regret. The consequences are not kool.

An Amritdhari Sikh cannot have a girlfriend because you are to consider every girl as your sister. Have peace in the mind and love your Guru. :) Whoever she is please do the right thing don't do anything that you are going to regret.

i think this a very strange and stupid answer that a amritdhari sikh can not have girlfriend and has to consider every girl as his sister.it means an amritdhari sikh should not get married because every girl is his sister.i think it is very natural that a young man get attracted towards a young girl.but being a sikh he has to behave like a mature man and tell his and her parents everything. if they are not ready to accept their love then he is free to take another decision, but he must try not to hurt anyone. but if his love is true then he should trust in Waheguru and do what he has to do. today sikhism is losing its respect and glory because of such people who don't know anything about sikhism and tell other people illogical things.if sikhism ever get died out, such people will be responsible for that. sikhism is based on logic, everything that is explained without logic does not belong to sikhism.this is sikhism's strength what other religion don't have. if we don't explain sikh religion's teachings with logic than we will be like other religion which preach useless things. i have been thinking about to form a Forum where i can ansewr all the question and i think i have to do this as soon as possible otherwise such people, who are telling other people wrong things about sikhism will destroy sikhism. i request all the people who read this to give me suggestions and support. i have lot to say , i think we can get the sikhism its respect back if we all use our brain obey our guru sahibaan's teachings.my skype ID is ajitjeet (jalandhar, punjab), thanks.

Perhaps I did not explain my self properly, the way I look at this is that a Sikh is a person who is noble and does seva and is always honest and brave. I know how much I know about Sikhism and please do not say that I am trying to destroy Sikhism. Because I am a SIKH do you understand! (I 'm pretty sure that ajitsingh's comment was aimed at me. if not i am sorry).

If we look back to when Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa there was not one Sikh that had a girl friend! They were either married or considered every Kaur as their sister! I mean seriously! We are Khalsa.

"If we notice a Gursikh, who has taken Amrit of Guru Sahib and becomes so attracted to the member of opposite sex that he (or she) can only think of her and can't live without her, then surely such person was never in love with Guru Sahib."

Yeah the time has changed, few decades back in India love marriage was taken as a huge issue but now it is sort of normal, i mean back then in Guru's times arranged marriages used to occur, girls used to get married at a very early age so did the guys..now guys and girls go after their higher education and career and while all this they can fall for someone and at the end our motive is to find a nice life partner not to fool around, so according to me either it is an amritdhari person or non amritdhari, falling for someone and getting married is not bad. but we should try not to get physical before marriage, that is wrong. idk whether it is true or not but i have heard that in Sri Guru Granth sahib ji, the love story of sassi punnu i guess has been mentioned, i mean love should be pure and if it is for opposite sex no worries.

well i think that it is ok to meet someone put some time and get married but going out to the movies just for fun and all, maybe these things are wrong. i mean it is ok to find a soul mate but just having a gf or bf just for fun is wrong according to me. we should be looking for a man or woman to get married. the rest no offence to the OP as idk your intentions whether you want a girl to get married with or just as other people want a gf or bf.

I want you to know that the answer to your question will just have debates because not one person truly knows the answer to this question; but I want you to follow what you believe, before starting to get a gf or a bf, remember the 4 rules you promised to Guru Ji, because these 4 rules are the ones most people break when they get a gf or bf. You do remember the 4 rules in order 1. Don't cut your hairs!, this is the rule most people break to get a gf or a bf 2. Don't do adultery, the second most common law to break for romance 3. Drugs, this is one way to get someone to lose, as doing drugs will make you want to do #2 4. Don't eat ritualistic meat, such as Halal, or Kosher, I know that this has almost no effect, but just for reminder
