Arranging hair while tying turban

My parents are Amritdhari and I also want to become Amritdhari, but I have some problems in tying my turban. I can tie a good turban but I am confused when it comes to setting my hair. My mother tells me to do a joora. She feels that according to sikh rehat maryada, we should first make a joora (puff). But with Joora, it becomes difficult to tie a turban and it also doesn't look good. My friends advise me to tie a turban by not making joora. They just give me some other tips which I don't know about.

Moreover, I can't learn from my dad, my dad has a very short hair but I have a long hair.
