Ummmm you can marry anyone you like. Sikhism was created to get rid of the caste system and Sikhism says everyone is equal, color and race doesn't matter.

What your mother is saying is different. By saying, "preferable to marry your own race", she probably means that if you marry someone outside of your race or caste, there will be cultural/family value differences, nothing else.

When a person becomes a Sikh, their caste and race doesn't matter because at the end of the day, that person is a SIKH!
