Dear Manjit, It is great that you are feeling ready to take Amrit. If you aren't sure why, this is a discussion to have with your family about why they might not feel it. Maybe there is another reason. If the reason is indeed marriage, it would be good to point out that you wouldnt want to marry someone that superficial anyways- that you want to marry someone who will also walk the same path as you! I think if you've already made the commitment and you are showing you are capable of upholding the responsibility they can't really have an argument against that. You shouldnt worry about disappointing them, your relationship is with you and God and i've never heard of a single parent disappointed that their child is now amritdhari. I think just opening up the discussion with the intent that you are serious about pursuing this is a good step.
