no one should call you stupid, especially a teacher. We are all learning. I actually am unsure of the answer to this question but i am hoping someone else can add to it if i've made an error. When i was growing up my mom always used to tell me not to write gurbani on random pieces of paper because sometimes those end up getting thrown around and people step on them. They aren't treated with respect. I have seen people writing gurbani in their notebooks, etc. so i don't think its wrong to write gurbani, its just writing in a notebook is different than a random sheet of paper i guess. also its important to be careful to copy properly and correctly (don't make mistakes).
