i think its just a matter of education- not knowing who Sikhs are, who Muslims are. We should spend an effort to educate people in our own lives about our religion, and to learn about other religions. Other people should make an effort to learn about Sikhi and other religions. But people are often too wrapped up in their own stuff to try to learn, so they just base it off of looks (like Not-at-all-punjabi said above).

I think its hard for people also to understand the difference between culture and religion and there is some overlap in culture. Like Punjabis can be Sikhs or Muslims. Then people get confused.
