ask or don't ask

Ofcourse I have watched the video regarding how praying is not a shopping list. i was doing pretty well on the spiritual path until, I started asking for something (not a material, but something for my future)

when i did this, what I asked didn't come true exactly and it got complicated, there is still hope thou.. my parents say just pray do like this many pages of shri guru granth sahib and everything will be allright.

but initially when I thought my prayer wasn't heard, I quit doing my nitnem, path most of it. it completely knocked me off my spiritual path.

when i don;t ask for anything, and just pray to basically concentrate on what the shabad is saying I feel better. but the minute I ask for something it completely throws me off tangent (because what if it doesn't come true and I lose faith, ) I am almost afraid to ask something from god, (but people tell me to ask all the time )

so know that prayer still has a hope of being true. and I am healing from that complete slip from the spiritual path, with still having hope, do I do ardaas asking god to make my prayer come true (like my mom says), but I am afraid that if it doesn't come true, I might experience a slip again.

I went from having such a deep connection, to no connection at all. now slowly recovering.
