I have never in my life seen a rich person praying to God, Even if some are there they do so that they can continue living happily (purpose of praying to retain happiness)

Suffering, hopeless etc. pray to end their suffering.

Maybe the wise people at that time thought to console the poor and suffering we devise a ideology of religion so that they can be content in their life ?
