Waah yantee mantar is from Patanjali not from Gurbani then why your website trying to promote it as part of sikh nitnem with using some fake stories ? What is your attention ? Why you are trying to mix Hindu mantars in Sikhi ? And why trying make sikh Yog sadhna but in real Sikhi is not about Yoga ? Why trying mix all non sikhi stuff in Sikhi ? I try to ask Gurmustuk singh to remove this non sikhi mantars from Sikhnet also emailed to sikhnet website but they remain silent . Why Sikhnet misleading people by promoting Patanjali mantars and trying to connect with Guru Nanak by making fake stories ? Why not removing it if you are trying to do best to promote Sikhi ? Who paying you to do this ?

Jaspreet Singh Ji -

Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji ki Fateh!

OK, let's take your questions one at a time.

  1. Why your website trying to promote Waah yantee mantar as part of sikh nitnem with using some fake stories ? Why do you think this? Please be so kind as to send me a link where this claim is made on SikhNet. To my knowledge, your statement is not true. Wha Yantee mantra is not part of Nitnem. Where have you found on SikhNet that says it is?

  2. Why you are trying to mix Hindu mantars in Sikhi? Who said that Hindu mantras are part of Sikhi? We are not exclusive in that all mantras that are real and effective, regardless of their historical origin, can be used by anyone. The mantras MOST mentioned in Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji are "Ram" and "Hari." What makes them Sikh? They existed before our Gurus and our Gurus chanted them. Where is the problem? Are you Hindo-phobic? No one is saying that chanting any particular mantra makes you any particular religion. Again, if you have found such statements on SikhNet, please be so kind as to post links. Thank you.

  3. And why trying make sikh Yog sadhna but in real Sikhi is not about Yoga? I don't know what your morning sadhana is but my sadhana includes yoga and pranayam to open up and energize myself so that Gurbani and Naam can be deeply absorbed. No one has said that this is required, but you may find it very helpful to experience deep concentration and vibration of Gurbani. Why not do it if you so choose? Have you ever tried it?

  4. You mention "fake stories" used to connect Patanjali mantras with Guru Nanak. Again, I don't know what stories you are talking about? Please post a link so I can understand what you are talking about. What fake stories? Where are they? Many Sakhis are traditional stories of Guru Nanak Dev Ji that our children are raised on, yet they may not have any extant historical evidence to guarantee their accuracy, nonetheless, we tell and re-tell them. Are you saying we should not tell any sakhis that do not have extant, acknowledged and confirmed historical evidence to substantiate them?

  5. Lastly, Who is paying us to do this? Where did you get the idea that anyone is doing that? It's kind of an a priori question like, "when did you stop beating your wife?" It makes the assumption that something has happened, when in fact it may not be true. You assume that SikhNet is paid to publish certain content. I can assure you categorically that this is not the case, nor has it ever been. SikhNet exists beyond personal or political agendas. It is a non-judgemental, safe space for people to come, be inspired and experience their own Sikhi, in whatever stage of their spiritual journey they may be. Our job is simple: we work to make each person ...

If yoga is use only for exercise then it is good for health. If it is use to achieve spirituality then not good, Spirituality is a game of mind not body. Mind can be controlled by Gurbani.

The Waah Yantee mantra should not be on Sikhnet.com or any Sikh website in any way audio or written. It confuse public about Sikhi.

Thanks!

Singh2000 Ji - Well, your reply indicates to me that there are misunderstandings about what yoga is. Your generalization of body vs. mind simply shows me that your definition of yoga is different from mine. My definition is what is in SGGS and the Vars of Bhai Gurdas: Union with the One.

Thank you Ji. Looking at your SikhNet links I see they are to the Gurbani Media Center. Well, actually there are lots of tracks in the GMC that are not Gurbani per se. We do need help properly tagging tracks in the GMC since we don't have enough manpower to do it. Would you like to help SikhNet by assisting with content tagging?

You have a lot of questions here. It basically revolves around a suspicion that SikhNet is part of some agenda that is against Sikhi or mixing things that are against Sikhi. So let me address that directly.

Vaaraan Bhai Gurdas is the key to Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Historically it is known that Guru Arjun Dev ji even offered for it to be included in Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Being written by one of the most prominent historic Sikhs alive during the time of several Gurus Bhai Gurdas ji's writings hold a rare status as universally accepted to be sung in shabds in Gurdwara as Gurbani. Thus there is nothing controversial, questionable or contradictory in Vaaraan Bhai Gurdas from SIri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

The following is from Vaaraan Bhai Gurdas, this most authentic source in Sikh history: "Gurmukh Patanjali the (supposed) incarnation of the Sesnaga, very thoughtfully recited, the Naga-Shastra, Yoga Shastra."

It is clear that Bhai Gurdas did not consider Patanjali as a Hindu outsider to the Sikh religion. In fact Patanjali is given the title of 'Gurmukh': https://searchgurbani.com/bhaigurdasvaaran/vaar/1/pauri/14

This vaar goes on to describe how Patanjali was a great spiritual leader who's teachings provided salvation and satisfaction for devotees in this Kal Yug: "In kaliyug, Patanjali gave the teachings which fulfilled the desires that remained unfulfilled in the other three ages."

It is clear from this text that the practice of Yoga itself is not against Sikhi, in fact it can be of great benefit in order to reach the state of anahad: "Yoga is cleansing praxis through which the surati gets absorbed into the unstruck melody (anahad dhun).

This vaar also introduces the term "Gurmukh Yogi", praising one who attains such status. This fully dispels the notion that yoga is outside of Sikhi.

With this context we can see that there are many teachings within Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji that do warn of Yogis who have lost the goal of attaining to the anahad, the higher states of consciousness. In the words of Yogi Bhajan, "If yoga was all about flexibility than a circus clown would be the best yogi". These many warnings of practitioners using yoga not for its intended purpose have been interpreted as warnings against yoga itself. This is understandable if you take those certain lines out of context.

Though this interpretation may have gained popularity in this modern era I think it is abundantly clear from this vaar that it is falsity that Guru ji warns us of, not of yoga itself. In fact yoga can be useful to absorb naam if used correctly:

"The complete achievement of yogic bhakti is that, with your hands, you complete all your affairs." -Vaaraan Bhai Gurdas

Also, it is clear that Patanjali is a venerated figure within Sikh history. Baba Gurmukh Patanjali gave teachings which state, "illusion cannot be erased without (the true) yoga (of union)". To reject yoga outright in ... (more)
