I've noticed that a lot of questions posted on this Q&A page deal with sex. Why do Sikhs have so many questions regarding this issue? Can't we just be open about it with our own parents? I mean it's their responsibility to explain this stuff to us, no matter how awkward it may get. Anybody agree with me? If you disagree, please explain why.
Frankly the whole world is curious about sex. Here is an open forum for QnA and people ask their doubts. As far as parents are concerned, it is always a sticky area whether you are in a Sikh family or not (and Punjabi Sikhs are kind of on the conservative side). So it is sad that in the end we believe what the internet or TV tells us.
The whole world is curious about sex, especially if you are around my age, which is also the age that many people start having this relation of love towards the other sex, and also respects them much more, if you were to ask a little child who doesn't know how he was born, a young male, a non-sikh recommended, but any faith is fine, ask this kid what a girl is like, mostly it will be negative, because I am a Sikh, I have felt that no one should ever be discriminated against like ever, now ask a teenager male, he will almost always say a different answer, but non-sikh is who you should ask
Although it is true people become curious about sex once they go thru puberty. I might have to disagree with Sardar Sukhmeet Singh to ask only a non Sikh teenage boy what he thought of teenage girls, this question needs to be asked with Sikhs male and female teenagers and adults about Sex and having a relationship. Generally the Sikhs by and large are not very open to discuss sex with their children, hence this prompts curiosity among people to ask others (such as online forums, like this site, ask their peers, friends, co-workers, internet, books, magazines, movies, and etc). We are in the 21st century which means that there is a good chance that we will come across many Sikhs who have engaged in pre-martial sexual relationship, if we keep closing our eyes and keep saying this doesn't happen within our community then we are the fools to not to acknowledge the reality in front of our eyes. In many Churches they discuss safe sex,AIDs, HIV, yet we as Sikhs feel this a taboo to be discussed in the Gurdwara, or any Sikhism related place. Although we as Sikhs have progressed in many fields but when it comes to discussing sex with the Sikh teenagers and adults we are quite shy about it.
If I have children in the future, I will be sure to discuss the topic of sex with them. I just find it ridiculous that we can't talk to our parents about things like this. Part of the reason why Sikhs have pre marital relationships is because no one has the guts to tell them what it really means.
Have you ever seen a Sikh Masturbaute or watch porn, if so, then you can say that Sikhs are equal to other faiths, if not, then I am right on this issue
