Wow, humans are omnivores. Vegetarianism has nothing to do with spirtuality. People who know nothing about translating gurbani incorrectly translate it to present their case for "vegetarianism". You cannot just read one line and translate. You have to read the entire shabad and get the context to do the correct translation.
Also, below from gurbani:
"ਮਾਸੁ ਮਾਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਝਗੜੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ Maas Maas Kar Moorakh Jhagarrae Giaan Dhhiaan Nehee Jaanai || मासु मासु करि मूरखु झगड़े गिआनु धिआनु नही जाणै ॥ The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom."
I guess that make all of us on this forum fools!
WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH.. . Jehre lok apne aap nu guru da pura sikh dasde aa te kende aa k Sikhism ch meat khana galt ni hai j o jhatka meat hove te onu method nal tyar kita hove....a o lok aa jehre khud meat khana like karde aa but apne aap nu paapi ni akhvona chahunde...ena nu apni gal sidd krn lyi ik shabad mil gya dhan Shri Guru Nanak dev ji da....te ena nu lagda asi ta pura rab hi samaj lea...but guru ji has rightly said that they are all blind...o na ta guru nu lab sakde aa te na hi os nu truly read kr sakde aa...a ta khud e rab bne bethe aa ...ta hi dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji nu follow ni karde.
hmmmmm this topic gets everyone. First of all spiritualism and vegetarianism go together. Secondly Guru Ji said, jeev hateya nahi karni which basically means not to kill. Meat comes from killing which isn't what Guruji wants us to do so guess 'Meat and Sikhi' don't mix but then again Rehat Maryada says don't eat halal does this mean, a Sikh can eat jhatka? I myself don't eat meat, simply because Guruji said, not to kill and there are other things we can eat like fruit and veges.
veerji guru will never against his teaching guru will ok with hunger but its kurehat. and guru is god. ohn ta naam de ahar hi chakde hn. nd u knw guru gobind singh ji didnt ate anything fr 2 mounth nd just tight hi kamar kasa in chamkour and machiwara
and one thing more the 40 mukte who leave sikhi becoz of hunger this proves singh doesnt eat meat
be a human 1st is ur conscious allows u than think about sikhi maryada coz sikhi is not so little thing
an article on SIKHIWIKI .....
Guru ji says himself you shouldnt sacrafice your life for being vegeterian its a known fact that when the singhs and singhnia were in the jungles they had to eat the meat to survive even though they were vegeterians. so the guru gave them the five situation that they would be allowed too.
sri guru gobind singh ji says in the rehat nama and rehat maryada that a sikh can eat meat BUT if a sikh wishes to stay a vegeterian due to the system of bibek created by the sixth guru then they can. thus they are called vaishnu who do not eat the flesh of an animal for any purpose but the guru says that the one who chooses to do so must stick to there word and not eat any meat atall be it fish meat or eggs that person must follow the system properly. they must eat out of iron so on so forth. the guru says that a sikh could only eat meat to survive for one musnt kill them selfes for devotion as all the gurus have stated the warrios only ate meat having to survive otherwise they couldnot fight they would grow weak and die.
in sikhi meat inst eaten for pleasure atall and when eaten must be respected with all heart the whole animal is used for war bones for weapons skin for drums etc.
Sikhism is transitionally vegetarian, and will always stay that way being spiritual and being vegetarian go hand in hand.
and just to state eating meat is only a sin when japji sahib, chandi di vaar and the stroke of the sword haven't been Incorporated in the process meaning that the meat has to be jhatka to be eaten the animal must of had the prayers read over it and then its head cut from its body as liberation from all life forms for the animals sacrifice.
There is no answer to this, why I say this is mainly because of one reason, when you are born, do you obtain the milk from an animal or a plant, you get the first food from your mom, I think that ends the issue there, you already ate meat from the start
Nope. Milk is not meat. Milk is freely given by the cow. Meat is forceably taken by killing the animal. Two VERY different things.
I mean when you are born, there is something known as breast-feeding, I don't want to talk about sex parts, but it is the truth
So here it is. I came across this Wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DietinSikhism) that says these following lines are from SGGS ji:
First Mehl: The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom. What is called meat, and what is called green vegetables? What leads to sin? It was the habit of the gods to kill the rhinoceros, and make a feast of the burnt offering. Those who renounce meat, and hold their noses when sitting near it, devour men at night. They practice hypocrisy, and make a show before other people, but they do not understand anything about meditation or spiritual wisdom. O Nanak, what can be said to the blind people? They cannot answer, or even understand what is said. They alone are blind, who act blindly. They have no eyes in their hearts. They are produced from the blood of their mothers and fathers, but they do not eat fish or meat.
But, the original Gurumukhi text has not been provided, also, I am not able to trace out what page it has been taken from. If this is true then it means eating non-veg has nothing to do with religion/spirituality and in PARTICULAR SIKHISM...
aNYone wants to say something about this??
Yup. The key line in this shabd is " They alone are blind, who act blindly. They have no eyes in their hearts." The Guru talks over and over about acting blindly and uses many examples, e.g. rituals, yoga postures, etc. The quote isn't about meat or veg. It's about spiritual blindness.
You can read the Shabad here http://www.searchgurbani.com/gurugranthsahib/ang/1289
this is an exact quote from the sikh net sggsj 1289 and 1280 of sri guru granth sahib ji. please get it right this is not about blindness is pure fact
hey its teaching to so called vaishno brahmins who do wrongs but say that they are vaishno vegetarians nd do non veg deeds
just ask this question to our guru sri guru granth sahib guru says kabir khub khana kichri jah mah amrit loon hera roti karne galla cutawe koun kabir ji says joh sabh main ek khudhae kehat hai toh kyun murgi marhe
i get it i am only vegeterian to i would never touch an animal in this way
