I'm a fiction writer and have a character who is Sikh. At one point in the story, a good thing happens and he's very happy about it. He attributes it to an act of God. Would it be appropriate for him to say, "Thank you Waheguru" in the same way a Christian might say "Thank God?" Or does that sound strange.

That would be perfectly okay to use the words, "Thank you WaheGuru".
