I have a friend who is a Jehovah's witness. She has pretty strong opinions. she says that any scriptures that do not come from the bible are wrong or written by the devil. she says that god had angels working for them, and one of them decided to be bad, and he knew all the scriptures too. so he created duality which splits us into all religions, because to her all people should believe in bible. and to her bible is the ultimate truth. what do you guys think and how do I deal with this?

The best way to tackle this is to relate to her that in sikhi there is only one god, not a monotheistic narrow perspective but a panentheistic view in sikhi we belive that the universe is contained within god. But all other faiths view that god is contained within the universe and foreighn to it.

in sikhi there is no duality and for this reason there is no devil (the fallen angel she refers to) there is only material illusion which is a mode of creation that we are all part of so that life can be lived but when one indulges on this material called miya, they become lost and spiritually in danger.

Jehovas witness follow there own polluted and changed version of the bible called the NWT or New word translation of the "holy scriptures". i suggest that you dont fall into the trap used by such faiths that inly care to convert people for the sake of numbers and faith that is inspired by lack of knowledge and guilt.

suggest to your freind that if she wishes to study a true version of teh bible that she read teh greek orthodox study bible. but to leave you alone beacuse you are not interested.

sggsj tells us that reading and reading the scholars get no where, and are only befooled futher by their arguments, the mysteries of god are beyond human comprehention.

"Be on the watch for the false prophets who come to you in sheep’s covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they? Likewise, every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit. A good tree cannot bear worthless fruit, nor can a rotten tree produce fine fruit. Every tree not producing fine fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Really, then, by their fruits you will recognize those men" (Matthew 7:15-20)

That is a quote by Jesus from the Gospel of Matthew in the New World Translation (preferred by Jehovah's Witness members). It is corrupted in many aspects, but this verse is relatively untouched. She may not accept this teaching of Jesus if another translation was used.

Show her this quote and let her see that softly let her understand she is wrong. "By their fruits you will recognize these men"...she is friends with you, and she doesn't think you are bad. So logically, being the fruit (Sikh) of the tree (Guru Nanak and the other gurus), means that Guru Nanak isn't a Satanic false prophet. She doesn't have to accept him as the true guru of Kali Yuga, but she must understand he is not from Satan.

Also she ought to look into the brave actions of Sikhs and the Gurus. For example, tell her of Guru Tegh Bahadur's Martyrdom.

Also please note for yourself that Jehovah's Witness is a false cult. Follow what the post by Nihang96K about Orthorox Christianity. He speaks the truth.

Omg... I came here to learn about sikhs but being a Jehovah's witness for years, i see people who are out right lying!!! Some people, just like most people in religions are hypocritical about things or don't know. I understand the frustration... I see that both are very clear cut religions.... I came here to get a feel for what to do... I feel like I will be discriminated against if i try to change... I never hear or see any or the brothers or sisters of the kingdom hall say things like this. If you need information, please go to JW.org. I will be more than happy to recieve POSITIVE information from someone who isn't about negative stories and mixing up faiths that are untrue. Please.... I just want to know more information about Sikhs if someone can help me... All i am seeing is hateful words and nothing else...

Welcome cat! Please do not judge Sikhs by the words of any individual. Sikhi is not a religion. Anyone of any faith can practice Sikhi. Our temples have doors open to all four winds and all people from all corners of the earth. It is a lifestyle based on three simple things: Rise before the sun, meditate and connect yourself to the One in everyone; work honestly, by the sweat of your brow and don't live off others; and lastly, share what has been given to you with any who are in need. Sikhi is a path for all. You can begin from any level of understanding and grow from there.
