Maya is part of God too. Just as the pixels on a television screen are not the things we see on screen, so the things we see in the "real world" are not what we assume them to be. While everyone knows a TV is only an image, we still fall into it and believe it. Just so, everything in the "real world" is also just pixels. The "reality" people accept is the reality they have mutually agreed upon. Is the TV tricking you? No. It just makes images. So is the material world an illusion as well. As Cloud pointed out, Maya is how things appear to us. God lies beyond that.
We all "know" Ek Ong Kaar” — God is One. But although the One is only One, there are two in the One: ONG, the un-manifested Being we call Nirgun or Purusha — the One in everyone and everything, unseen, eternal, indestructible, formless and all pervasive; and KAAR, the manifested (physical) universe of ether, air, earth, fire and water, the five tattvas set in motion by the three gunas (energies) sattva (creation), rajas (preservation), and tamas, (destruction.) The forms we see manifested throughout creation — from elephants to ants, from stars to atoms, this we call Sirgun or Prakriti — the myriad forms of creation. But they are just that, only forms. Constantly flowing changing and evolving - constantly being created, sustained and destroyed only to be reborn again.
The Tao Te Ching says: “All forms continuously arise from the One and fall back into the One” or, as Yogi Bhajan always put it: “All things come from God and all things go to God.”

In Sikhism, the world is regarded as both transitory and relatively real.[83] God is viewed as the only reality, but within God exist both conscious souls and nonconscious objects; these created objects are also real.[83] Natural phenomena are real but the effects they generate are unreal. māyā is as the events are real yet māyā is not as the effects are unreal. Sikhism believes that people are trapped in the world because of five vices: lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego. Maya enables these five vices and makes a person think the physical world is "real," whereas, the goal of Sikhism is to rid the self of them. Consider the following example: In the moonless night, a rope lying on the ground may be mistaken for a snake. We know that the rope alone is real, not the snake. However, the failure to perceive the rope gives rise to the false perception of the snake. Once the darkness is removed, the rope alone remains; the snake disappears.
