How do you get karma? Everything you do. From every little thought, to a grand jesture, everything builds up your karma, positively or negatively. The good things you think/do are rewarded, whereas the bad things you think/do are punished. If your question is how to build up good karma - that is to follow the three sikh pillars: Chant naam, live by honest means and do selfless service, and finally share and consume.

Karma is nothing but the law of cause and effect. Every action you do and every word you speak has a sequence and a consequence. When your words or actions hurt another person (in a seen or unseen way) you create karma. You come into this incarnation so that you can pay your karmas with grace. You already have karmas from previous lives when you are born. The more consciously conscious you become... the more you become mature spiritually... you will be able to see the sequence and the consequence clearly before you open your mouth and before you act. That way, you avoid creating more karma and you clearly recognize the opportunities the Guru presents to you to pay your existing karmas.
