Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh.

I am a 16 year old boy and I recently started practising sikhi. My hair is very thick and I get huge problems when I am combing it. There are knots everywhere in my hair and it hurts when I Comb it. My parents tell me to cut it and wear bhaag regularly but I don't want to disappoint guru ji and cut my kesh.

Please help me out of this misery.

Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner and develop ideal hair care practice. Towel dry hair by placing all of the kesh together in towel and squeeze towel to soak up the water try to get the hair to a damp state then use your hands like a comb and GENTLY get any big tangles out. Also you could try spray that you can get which helps to untangle hair.

When your kesh is clear of any heavy tangles just GENTLY run kanga through a few times to loosen up more. When kesh is ready for oil massage use quality hair oil such as mustard oil mixed with coconut oil and work into scalp and hair right through to full length of kesh. Better if your mother can apply the oil to your kesh regardless of how much they value kesh!

Finally comb your kesh carefully again to get all hair smooth, straight and tangle free. Tie dastaar. You could also massage oil into scalp/kesh say night before washing your hair as this also can help.

My hair also was very thick when I was young but I was a mona! Over the years though due to dry hair and scalp my hair has thinned on top of my head although kesh is longer now. So it is important to keep kesh oiled regularly and combed to keep hair healthy.

do an ardass to guru sahib that you wish to comb the nots out.

steps:

put oil in your kesh

do ishnaan in shower

and use both shampoo and conditioner, whilst your hair is in the shower comb it and all nots tend to come out. the force of the water gets all nots out.

if some knots come out then repeat the steps every day untill a substational amount have come out never cut your kesh.

We must comb our kesh twice a day

see first of all i will clarify your wrong thought that "if i cut hair, i am disappointing my god". see there is no your god, as guru granth sahib ji says that god is ONE for all the religions, so how will you disappoint him by cutting hair and a hindu or muslim wont, ofcourse our guru ji said this but only one of them did and it is not even written in our guru granth sahib ji. if you dont want your hair cut it, just be kind gentle and control your kam, krodh, moh, lobh, hankar. follow the path of truth, this will make god proud and not doing this will disappoint him. CUTTING HAIR WILL NOT.

First of all thank you for not listening to your parents. What every you do don't let your Kesh be cut. I don't have thick hair myself but I'm sure theres stuff online that can easily help you Google/YouTube how to fix tangled hair. Or wait till some on here can advise you.

Remember Bhai Taru Singh Ji had his scalp scarped off then get his Kesh cut.

Again thank you for keeping your hair and search on here the word Kesh I'm pretty sure some had the same problem.

http://answers.sikhnet.com/question/3691/is-it-okay-to-cut-my-hair/ these are many questions about kesh on this site. And the first answer on this link should answer your question.

Please forgive me if i said anything wrong or offensive
