Sanskrit: Gu = darkness, Ru = light. Gu-ru/Guru=From darkness to light.

Would Maya be considered a Rugu (from light to darkness) since as a baby you are born pure and quickly Maya rids you of your purity making you full of darkness?

Maya is the illusion that what we see (the physical world) is the be all and end all. All the things that pull at your senses.
