Why did Yogi Bhajan do numerology ad fasting?
You cut off the beginning of the quote. The most important part. Without that it makes no sense. "Without the Lord, other actions are useless. Meditative chants, intense deep meditation, austere self-discipline and rituals — these are plundered in this world. || 1 || Pause || Fasting, daily rituals, and austere self-discipline — those who keep the practice of these, are rewarded with less than a shell. Hereafter, the way is different, O Siblings of Destiny. There, these things are of no use at all..." If you don't see and experience God in all THEN these things are useless.
Bhagwant Singh Ji - You already asked the numerology question and it has already been answered here.
You asked about fasting before as well.
The answer to your question has to do with mindset. Guru Ji is saying that people who believe that anything other than Naam will lead to their enlightenment or liberation will find that these things won't work. He does not say don't do them. He says you can get trapped into believing they are the WAY.
You could say that visting Darbar Sahib and touching your forehead to the perkarma every morning is a ritual. What makes something a ritual? Why does Guru Ji say that doing things ritualistically will not save you? Because the Naam must be alive in your heart all the time. Guruji is not saying that rituals are bad. He is saying that mindlessly doing something and thinking that it will save you is useless. We have many ceremonies in Sikhi. They must be done lovingly and mindfully. It is training for the mind to learn to pay attention. Then, when the heart melts like wax, the Gurbani can penetrate it.
please though explain how the date of your birth has anything at all to do with your destiny!
Meditative chants, intense deep meditation, austere self-discipline and rituals - these are plundered in this world. Fasting, daily rituals, and austere self-discipline - those who keep the practice of these, are rewarded with less than a shell. What does Guruji mean when he says this?
