Sindoor and Sikhism

SSA Everyone. I have noticed some Sikh females wear sindoor and as far as I am concerned/aware, sindoor isn't part of Sikhi. I tried to find Gurbani verses or examples from the Sikh history on the net but couldn't find too much information.

Someone asked "why some Sikhs wear sindoor and some don't?".

All I know is that the Hindu Scholars say that red is the color of power while vermilion is a symbol of the female energy of Parvati and Sati. Hindu mythological legends regard Sati as the ideal wife who gave her life for her husband's honor. Every Hindu wife is supposed to emulate her. Hindus believe that Goddess Parvati protects all those men whose wives apply vermilion to their parting of hair.

So obviously Sindoor isn't part of Sikhism but I usually like to support my answers with Gurbani. Could one of you please help me answer the question why some sikh females do it and some don't? I think its because people are not aware and people just do whatever other people are doing around them. However I really need sikh examples to answer the question. The 3rd paragraph although makes it clear that it isn't sikhism but you know some people still want to argue and ask what makes you sure? So for them I need Gurbani verses and/or examples.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji said: "Jab Lag Khalsa Rahe Niara, Tab Lag Tej Dioon Mein Sara Jab Eh Gaye Bipran Ki Reet, Mein Na Karoon In Ki Parteet"

And to me Sindoor is Bipran ki reet.

Guru Nanak DEv ji Maharaj makes clear that sindoor is not part of sikhi; sister must wear KEski!

guru ji says that the head which prays fr long life of thr hubbies by putting sindoor is my shaved by babbar's army nd dust is thr instead of sindoor coz they r nw slaves so here guru ji tells about ehti maar pai kurlani teh ki dard nah aya nd not condeming the sindor its just using simile

but sindoor is strictly prohibited in sikh becoz its brehmin reet nd symbol of backwardness nd even destoy nd beadbi of sacred kesh

I totally agree that the sindoor is not a part of sikhism. why dont you say that why is it that men don't have a specific thing like the sindoor that shows that they are married. whys is it that it is just girls?

Those that were the sindoor or those girls that wear choorian or the chanjrian are not considering themselves equal to a man.

Another thing, Guru ji also said that 'Rehat piari muj ko Sikh Piara nahe'

Yes I have tried saying what about men? Sikhi promotes equality then why do females have to do that. People turn around and say personal choice, its cultural etc! That is why I was looking for examples on Sikhnet. But I guess you guys are right and I sort of answered my own question above.

It is up to the concerned person to question herself, why is she doing it? Does she want it as a reminder to herself that she is married?

Dear Virji,

This is what people say to me that why am I worried about it, why am I trying to teach people that it is not part of Sikhi and that it should be a personal choice. But seriously it bothers me when I see Sikh females with Sindoor. It is just not part of Sikhism and I really want to educate them by giving examples from Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji.

The point is, Guru wanted us to format our minds and wisdom, submit ourselves to His Feet. He has not really talked about what is right and what is wrong. He hasn't talked about million of things that are not required. But he has given us a lifestyle, the simplest one, to follow.
