You can easily practice sikhism, without your family knowing because the sikh code of conduct is fairly short and simple. this code is known as "Rehat Maryada".

Here is a link:

Granted that you will not be able to follow all of the rules, without letting your family know, but many of the rules are simple and an be accomplished without your family finding out. For example you could do meditation on the Lords name "waheguru" in your mind, and nobody except you and God would know.

I would suggest that you tallk to Guruka Singh, who also converted his faith into sikhism.

P.S. I would recommend you to tell your family, even though they may be mad at you they can't kill you. They will get over it.

Sat Sri Akaal!

There is alot of things you can experience, realize as you start practising Sikhi. I would suggest you to start with understanding the meanings of Prayers that people do. These are very good vedios with meanings included . Try to do Waheguru simran everyday. Close your eyes, and sit. Listen to "Waheguru" word in your mind. This is the name of God, and slowly you will start experiencing peace.. bliss (a kind of bliss you just cant explain! it is so beautiful)... and much more. Try knowing history of Sikhism and what Amrit is!

It is my humble request to you that before you do anything. Just understand Japji Sahib. Maskeenji's detailed audio translations are available online for the whole Japji Sahib. This alone would tell you everything you need to know about sikhism. This is the foundation of Sikhism. Following rehat maryada doesnt mean anything if you dont understand the meaning of Gurbani specially Japji now that you are new to Sikhism.

A man who builds his boat alone will travel on the river of life alone.

A boat manned by one travels slow and hard.
