Family relationships

Hi there,

I hv been married for 3 years. My husband has a brother who got married 5 years ago, his wife left him and the house 7 months ago due to their relationship problems.

Some family sources told me she does not like me as I was getting full attention from all in family while she was having problems in her marriage. We live in diff countries and she has not met me once.

I got a call one day from a relative that the brother's wife has come bk to him. I haven't talked to her as I remembered what she said to others about not liking me.

Now 2 weeks later, I have found from family sources that I am in bad books of in laws as I didn't congratulate them on her returning to family. I'm so shocked, what shall I do?

Dear Bhenji,

Please just focus on the relationship between you and your husband. You will never be able to make everyone happy and not everyone will like you and that's OK. In this life, you and your husband were brought together to work off karma and to move closer to God. Use your grace and love as a woman to build a happy marriage and avoid the negativity. I know you can't get away from family--key is to be diplomatic and avoid gossip and avoid taking sides. Hope that helps.

Honestly these kind of politics unfortunately do exist in typical punjabi households. All you can do is have faith in waheguru because we can't simply simply satisfy every person every time. You can also maintain certain distance from them because the more you get involved the more they will expect for you get involved in family politics.
