I've been finding a lot of my time sucked up by social media. I decided to take a break for my mental wellbeing for a while but I find it addictive somewhat. Any tips on preventing me from going back? I had found myself on there more and more with no benefit to myself.

Ah, FOMO ;-) Yes, it can be addicting, but you know that social media goes on forever and there's no end to the scroll. Get a little elevation and dispassionately observe why and how you use social media. Look at where the stickiness is, where the attachment lies. What are you getting out of it? You say no benefit, but there is something there or you wouldn't do it.

Turn fb/twitter/insta notifications off so your phone doesn't grab your attention all the time. Choose a couple of times a day to look at your feeds, BUT SET A TIME LIMIT for yourself. A gradual weaning works better than "cold turkey" but it takes self-discipline. I know you have that.

well I tried cold turkey and only survived one day. Youre right, I do get a lot out of it connecting to people who I don't get to see often, reading Gurbani quotes, and learning from my friends about new topics. I have notifications off, but I think I need to just set a time limit and ...

be clear about why i'm using it and how i'm using it, so I deleted some people I didn't want to engage with anymore. Gradual weaning it is!

Try giving your phone to a family member if you can, or turn your internet off if you can (compulsory calls usually don't need internet). Also, turning the internet back on takes a few seconds and perhaps during that, you'll be able to control yourself. All in all, just divert your attention to something else, get busy with other things! Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.

thanks for your suggestions. I am usually doing other things on my computer and then just by habit, have realized I find myself on social media when I'm taking a break or tired of my work. I'm being more mindful about it now.

Well, don't be too harsh on yourself. If you're on it during breaks then I don't see anything wrong with it. You probably find it interesting and so like to use it.
