i am hindu i used to went in temples but i don't feel peace i also used to go bangla sahib and i feel peace in my mind , all frustration , depression also ends . i am reading sri guru granth sahib for minimum 2 hrs daily and also executing in my daily life . after all i want to devote me in feet of guru or the true god because by reading sri guru granth sahib ji i come to know reality that it unites religions , castes, there is no one is small or high . i also used to chant mool mantra and name of god and i feel peace. if it is possible to get free from reincarnation then i want to devote myself to the true guru or the true god.

Lokesh, it's good that you are a regular goer to Gurdwara Bangla Sahib. Every Sunday, all the Abhilakhis reach Gurdwara Bangla Sahib before noon to partake Amrit. The serene atmosphere of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib or the House of Bala Pritam Ji makes it the most beautiful and restful place in New Delhi.

To be a Amritdhari Sikh, you need to take care of below mentioned points.

  1. First of all you must read and understand the standard Sikh Rehat Maryada that is followed by the conventional Sikhs.

  2. A true Sikh male or female doesn’t trims or shaves the bodily hairs from Head to Toe and keeps his/her head covered most of the time. The bodily hair not just includes hairs on the head and the facial hairs but also under the armpits and pubic hairs too.

  3. A true Sikh intakes food that is pure vegetarian and before each meal remembers WaheGuru.

  4. A true Sikh refrains himself/herself from alcohol or any form of intoxicating substance.

  5. A true Sikh refrains himself/herself from pre-marital sex or having sex outside the parameters of marriage.

  6. A true Sikh earns his/her livelihood through hard work and honest means and shares one tenth of his/her net monthly earnings with the poor and the needy. Gambling of any sorts is not permitted.

The above mentioned are just the fundamental points to make a start. On the day of Amrit Sanchar, you must wake up and do keshi snan meaning bathing from head to toe, wear the 5K's that includes Kesh, strapped Kirpan, Kachhehra (shorts), Kangha and Kara and if possible do Ardas before leaving for the Gurdwara Sahib.

Do remember that on the day of the Amrit Sanchar you need not wear any jewellery, locket, tattoo, or cap. You must tie a neat turban and keep your beard flowing and head straight to the Gurdwara, on the way you must keep reciting Simran. And once you reach Gurdwara, all the Abhilakhis would be asked to gather in a separate room for the Sanchar.

Do not forget to tell the Gurdwara management that you are an Ex-Hindu, the reason during the Sanchar the Panj Pyares would formally announce your new Sikh name, you can opt for your old name Lokesh and add Singh because first name is optional but second name is mandatory.

The most importantly do remember what our Guru said, Jab Lag Khalsa Rahe Niara, Tab Lag Tej Dioon Mein Sara

Jab Eh Gaye Bipran Ki Reet, Mein Na Karoon In Ki Parteet

(as long as Khalsa follows only one path of the Gurus and follows the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji will always be with the Khalsa. And if the Khalsa goes against the Guru's teaching, then he will not have any connection with the Khalsa).

At the end, i would like to add that for the Amrit Sanchar, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is not the only place in Delhi, you can also go to ... (more)
