i am 17 years old and i have been through severe depression, and am still going through light depression. I can never get myself to do my nitnem properly the only thing i like to do is kirtan. i do not feel filfilled in my life i dont have good parents and i feel like through gurbani i can come to peace but i dont know how. i feel so alone like i need someone but i know only gurbani can fill my loneliness how do i become a naam jap-ing sikh.
I am sorry you are suffering from depression. Continue to do kirtan. As mentioned already, finding Sadhsangat is important, whether its locally or at camps. Try starting off with small amounts of time doing simran and build up. Also, I find listening to kathas to be very inspiring- there are lots online in English and Punjabi. They tell us about the meanings of Gurbani and the purpose of our life. That gives us guidance. Try also reading one page Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji per day and understanding the meaning. Taking small steps will help a lot. Also, look at the website Sarab Rog Ka Aukhad Naam. They talk about how Gurbani cures all kinds of illnesses and give simple list of shabads to read everyday.
Start by finding your Sadhsangat - those who share your longing, accept you as you are and inspire, uplevel and encourage you. That means get out, do seva at your local Gurdwara, attend a local Sikhi Camp or Youth Group. Lay your longing at Guru Ji's charan and tell Him the deepest prayer of your heart, then let it unfold.
