I am sorry to hear about your depression and that the medications have not helped (it’s probably a good idea to talk to your doctor about that). Before I talk about gurbani I just wanted to mention exercise is really helpful too so make sure to take out time to do that everyday if you aren’t already. All of the Guru Granth Sahib has great healing powers. I attended one of the Sarab Rog Ka Aukhad Naam camps in Canada this summer. It was a three-day camp and we read shabads from their “gurbani healing guide.” There were people coming up at the end of camp saying they had been healed of different types of ailments. In the guide (available free in English and Punjabi http://www.curesbygurbani.com/shabad-pdf/ Also see http://gurbanihealing.com on more information about Sarab Rog Ka Aukhad Naam). They have selected seven shabads in there with their translations which we read at camp. The idea is that reading any and all of Guru Granth Sahib Ji is healing, but those shabads particularly speak about healing and are somewhere for a person to start. I think understanding the gurbani we are reading helps us a great deal, it’s important to try to gain an understanding from it as gurbani is telling us how to live our lives. An easy place to start, easier than any and all of this is simran. I don’t know if you are currently doing simran. “Simro Simar Simar Sukh Pavo, Kal Kalesh Tin Mahi Mitavo”= “mediate, meditate, mediate in remembrance of Him, and find peace. Worry and anguish shall be dispelled from your body.” Through simran we can meet God, it helps us to be able to control the mind and stop our thoughts. The more we practice, the better we get at it. To do simran say Wahe (pulling belly button in) and Guru (pushing belly button out), keep the eyes closed so you aren’t distracted. Speak it out loud and listen to your voice. You can do simran while you do other activities during the day as well, but its important to make sit-down time where you just focus on simran and nothing else too. I know doing that may be especially difficult with the concentration difficulties that seems to develop when you have depression (I've had depression), so it might be helpful to get someone to do it with you or put on simran on youtube and speak alongside them. I For more information on simran visit mysimran.info, it also has simran audio you can listen to while you practice. I hope that helps.
