I am terribly sorry to hear about your mother’s illness. I can’t imagine how hard it must be for you and your family right now. I’m not going to pretend I have the answers for you but I hope that I can provide you with at least some things to think about. It’s hard to process the really bad things that happen in our lives. I am impressed with your devotion to prayer. Please try to keep it up, even though you may feel discouraged. Our reaction to the situation is the only thing we can really control- continuing to keep faith/doing prayers for example. (But I am not judging your dad because I have lost faith too when I was going through a serious hardship.)

I also understand your need for an explanation. Some people would explain suffering from illness as karma from past lives. Maybe some people would explain it differently. Ultimately, only Waheguru knows the reason behind His actions. Remember even when doing a life full of good deeds, people do experience hardships. Our Gurus suffered great atrocities despite their lifetime of good deeds, but there was a divine purpose. But remember always that this life is about this soul. And this body is a costume borrowed by this soul. Your mom’s soul is going to live on forever and it carries all the good that she has done with it. The cancer cannot take away all the good that she has done in this world. Waheguru is always with you for support, even though it doesn't feel like it sometimes.
