Not only can you not lead your life to please others, it is not even possible to please them. This is true no matter what you do. Life is not to please yourself and life is not to please others. Life is to serve the Guru in the manner in which he commands you to serve. In order to do that, you have to report to Him for your assignment and then be alert to the messages He is sending you. This requires two things: complete surrender and absolute alertness.
