As per the religious literature, saakhis and other historical authors, Bhai Mani Singh was given the penance of being executed by cutting his joints one by one.

Similarly Bhai Taru Singh ji was given the punishment of his scalp taken off when he showed a lot of love for Sikhi and Kesh.

Remember tyrants don't give you much of a choice!
