Our main "issue" is that everyone is now living longer. Where a long time ago (aprrox. 100 years ago), the average lifetime expectancy was 30 years of age across the world. That has now changed and we are living up until 89 years.
Space is an option, however how we accommodate this in an overpopulating world is the real issue needing to be addressed.
A possible answer to your question is YES, the populating could reach that number.
