More like Sikhism is ancient Hinduism and much more. Acutal Hinduism died when Brahmins manipulated the religion and made people believe that Statues are God, they went to such extent that Brahmins didn't even teach Sanskrit(language of Vedas and other Ancient books) to any non Brahmin, this led to corruption of the religion and the rise of modern "fake" babas.

The Actual Hinduism has this Gyatri Mantra ( same like our Mool Mantra)

Om Bhur Bhuvaḥ Swaḥ Tat-savitur Vareñyaṃ Bhargo Devasya Dhīmahi Dhiyo Yonaḥ Prachodayāt

which means We meditate on that most adored Supreme Lord, the creator, whose effulgence (divine light) illumines all realms (physical, mental and spiritual). May this divine light illumine our intellect.

So Ancient Hindu's meditated on true God unlike modern Hindu's who worship statues and avatars like Krishan, Shiv, etc.

Seeing this corruption and taking the best of both worlds from Hinduism, Islam & Buddhism Guru Nanak created a new religion that was true to the old and true values.

Note: Religions are created because of above reason but God is one and treats every true religion equally. Consider religion like nation borders, they are superficial and man made but the land is still land for birds as they don't know borders.
