There is no need for humans to eat meat. We live just fine on veges, daal, fruits, etc. Meat eating animals have short intesines (e.g, the tiger has an intestine one meter long) and humans have long intestines, seven meters long, which are designed to digest plant materials. Since, under normal circumstances, there is no need to take another life in order to survive, why do so? Meat is an acquired taste. It is the taste of another's blood. In the Kali Yug, most of mankind hungers after blood, but it is only an attachment which can be dropped when the time is right.
