2013-06-27 19:48:04 -0500 | answered a question | can a amritdhari sikh eat meat? There is a clear answer, and many fellow Sikhs agree with me, that you can't eat meat unless you have absolutely no other option. And by that I mean no other form of nutrition is available. In such extreme cases, you can eat meat. |

2013-04-17 21:13:06 -0500 | answered a question | Khalistan? I was actually thinking about this a few days ago, and this is the conclusion I came to: First, if you look at history, whenever there has been an attempt to create a nation based on ethnicity or religion, such as Israel or Pakistan, there has often been unrest. This may be heightened if Khalistan is created in the midst of India and Pakistan. Secondly, even if we do manage to make peace, I believe it is a Sikh's duty to spread Guru Ji's message of honesty, justice, etc. amongst other people. There is a saakhi in which Guru Nanak Dev Ji stayed at a village where he was treated very well, and when he was leaving, he declared that may their village be destroyed. Then he visited a village where he was chased out, and said that may that village prosper. When Mardana asked for an explanation, Guru Ji said that if the bad people's village prospers, they cannot hurt anyone outside. If the good people's village is destroyed, they can go to other places and spread goodwill. So anyways, that's my contribution to this debate. I respect all other opinions as well. |

2013-02-28 19:55:36 -0500 | asked a question | "Sikhs shouldn't say stuff like that" I was having a conversation with someone the other day, and at one point I said that on average women tend to live longer than men. When I said that, a fellow Sikh standing nearby told me that I shouldn't say stuff like that because everything happens according to Guru Ji's hukam. I understand where he was coming from, but was what I said really wrong? |
2013-01-11 00:31:43 -0500 | asked a question | Sikhs and consumerism A lot of the products we buy are manufactured in places where the workers are put through horrible conditions, and some say that that makes it unethical to buy such products. What is the Sikh point of view? Since so many items are made like this, should we just stop buying from big stores and brands? |
2012-10-14 16:44:55 -0500 | answered a question | vibrations I find that we're always surrounded by vibrations, but feeling them depends on how alert and attuned we are. That's why we will feel kirtan even if we don't understand it, because the Gurus wrote gurbani to create certain vibrations. That's also how we can tell if someone is overjoyed or depressed, depending on what vibrations they are giving off. When you do jaap, your mind becomes attuned to feel vibrations around you or in you. I'm sure there is much more to this, but this is what I understand. |
