My family makes me cut my hair. What should I do?

To be clear: I just began looking into sikhism. I'm not sure if this is a religion I will have a long-term commitment to, but for now I feel like this religion correlates with my beliefs. I want to stay as true to the religion as I can, which will prove difficult for me because of my young age.

Every month my mom makes me cut my hair. We always have the person cutting my hair trim off as little as possible, but she still wants me to get it cut because she wants me to get rid of my split ends. Additionally, when my armpit hairs grow out she'll shave them. (So far she hasn't commented on any other hairs, which I am grateful for). What should I do? Is a slight trim okay, if there's no way for me to get out of it? Or is cutting hair prohibited by any means?
