A sikh backed into my car and kept offering me money instead of trading insurance. Does that follow sikh beliefs?

I studied with Sikhs at a temple in Tucson many years ago. I have the utmost respect and highly regard Sikh beliefs. I am surprised that this person kept offering me money for backing into my car. I kept refusing. He kept offering more. He also would not offer me his insurance until I got the police involved. I was harassed by his entire family during the incident. It appeared that they had no damage so they kept saying it was no big deal that my car was damaged. I just wanted to get their insurance information and move on. Does this go against Sikh beliefs?
