i am 17 years old and i have been dealing with depression for more than 6 months now i was getting homopathic medicine ans it would help only a little while i took it. when i thought i was feeling much better and i didnt need it i stopped but i was back at my depression back where i started within a week and because of the depression i did not go back i took counselling but it did not help in any way so i stopped that too my family is not supportive my mom dealt with depression i thought she would understand but she doesnt understand at all she took me to get counselling ans medicine but she was never there for me when i felt week to console me which made it hard my dad has never understood anything so i didnt expect much and my sister is the only person i talk to but its hard when everyone expects u to be happy in a wee. my mom and dad just say oh well if you read gurbani more you'd never deal with this and they dont understand that the depression is taking over my mind and body and thats why its so hard for me to read gurbani i can barely get out of bed. so what i'm asking is somebody give me hope and tell me what to do how to and what gurbanis to read daily to help now i dont want medicine or counselling because i realize only mu guru can save me i just need guidance please help me i dont want my life to be depression.

Sorry really sorry for ur situation personally been there when i had nothing left of me and had no energy. I started listening to bani instead. U should try the same. and also benti chaupai to get over depressive thoughts and ask for help from guru. If u have no energy keep doing breath simran of waheguru.

Depression sucks but going through it made me closer to god. Its an opportunity for you to reflect and figure out what is bothering you. Bani is ur medicine.

And try listening to bani outside in fresh air. get hobbies that are creative (not internet surfing)

And get support online or real life. Talk to people tell them what is bothering u.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I am sorry that you have been suffering with depression. It is a very difficult disease for people who have not experienced it to understand because it can be when people cannot see it externally. Please be careful with other people’s advice, as people are often saying things that they think that would help themselves in that situation. Try to use your own judgment to see if their advice is good for you- You live in your own body and know yourself the best. I’m going to tell you about my experience hoping that it gives you some ideas on how to make it through this time. For myself, taking care of myself was important in my healing from depression. Trying to establish a routine for bedtime, eating well, getting up and taking a shower/doing your hair, getting dressed in the morning. Some people don’t have the strength to do these things and for others focusing on self-care seems minimal and frustrating. There was a point at which it was helpful for me to make a checkmark list of these things so I felt good about what I accomplished. But later on, I started to feel guilty about not being able to exercise that day, etc. (Exercise is very good to help boost your mood). In the end, I decided that I didn’t need a list but rather the value that it is important to take care of myself, and whatever I did that day, I was happy with because I simply did my best to survive. I have found some techniques I learned in counseling to be useful. For example, “chunking the day” which involves choosing a set period of time that you feel you can get through, say 10 minutes, and then doing an activity for that time and then reassessing. So I decide for example, to do art for 10 minutes. Then I reassess whether I feel like continuing or changing activities. It helps me get through the day. I found listening to shabads helpful to lift my mood and offer my mind some peace. I found writing down positive things about myself and reading them in the morning and night and posting to my wall to help my self-esteem. One piece of the puzzle is working on negative thinking- I’m not saying that if you think better your depression will go away though, because that’s actually a hurtful thing that people think is helpful. Focusing on the thinking is a piece. Medications is something you can also look into if you speak to your doctor. I found it useful to talk to my doctor even just to share what I’m going through with someone and have that support. I’m sorry your counseling experience was bad. Sometimes it’s a matter of switching counselors to someone with a different style, but I understand if you don’t want to go ... (more)

I've found Sukhmani sahib and Chaupai sahib especially helpful along with healing shabads from http://gurunanakhealing.com/static/healingshabads.pdf but of course all bani is healing to our souls :)

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

When I was younger round 15/16 my mental state got messed up and had some effect on my health. Through Guru Ji grace it got better, but it was my unstable mental health that brought me to take Guru Ji as a support.

I know how you feel, you feel like your depression will never go away but trust me it will.

Just mediate on Wahegurus name and listen to Sukhmani Sahib. I'll provide some links below soon, that I find relaxing.

Talk to the sangat about your problems, whether on this site or others such as Sikh Sangat or Sikh Awarness just talking to people makes you feel better.

Also try contacting Sikh helpline
