Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I think quite a lot of people get suicidal thoughts, I got them quite a lot a few years ago.

Do Ardaas, ask Guru Ji to stop these thoughts.

You can talk to Sikh helpline, they have website and will provide you with proper advice.

Also talk to the sangat, there are many forums like sikhnet, sikhsangat and Sikh awareness. So if you need any help, they will happily advice you.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I am really sorry that you are experiencing these thoughts. I do not know the context of your life and whether you are also experiencing depression, anxiety, or other mental illness or whether you just had a major life event. If its associated with mental illness, know that there is help and treatments available for those. I’m not sure if you are experiencing these thoughts in the context of hopelessness or these are just thoughts that come to you randomly because you haven’t mentioned that so I’ll try to make my answer broad.

This is hard to talk about, so thank you for sharing. I think its important to share this with someone else who can help you better like a doctor, or a trusted family member, or calling something like a local crisis line. I agree with the person above that you need some proper advice. Lots of people have experienced suicidal thoughts. Its especially important that you are safe and in order to do that its important to get help. I don’t know how strong these thoughts are and whether you have a plan or intent to act on the plan, but these are questions that a healthcare professional would ask you in order to help. Safety plans are important if you tend to have these thoughts when you are distressed. A safety plan involves steps like calling for help or going to the emergency room to get help if you are feeling unsafe. Often times these thoughts come when we can’t cope with the problems in front of us and we need help finding a solution that is manageable. Try to tell others what you need in terms of support. Make sure you are not alone when you feel this way, its good to have support around.

Try to think about the reasons you live or the reasons not to do it. For example thinking about how it doesn’t solve your problems because your soul will carry forward the pain to your next life, or alternatively thinking about all the people who care about you right now. The reasons might be different for you than they are for me, each person needs to think about it. As the other person posted, its good to do Ardaas and remember God. Try not to wrap up yourself in guilt and shame because it may prevent you from getting the help you need and being able to talk about it.

Additional: I’m so sorry all this is happening. Its ok to take the time to focus on yourself and not be in a relationship right now. Right now, taking care of yourself like exercising and sleeping well are important because it builds strength for you to deal with the stressors. You are not alone- God is with you here during all of this. If you have the ... (more)

here is my context

thank you strong kaur for giving such a detail answer. its something I would only talk about online as this is a very heavy topic

I was suicidal (ish) in middle school (somewhat)+ high school (more intense because more drama and betrayal from a friend) I used to cut myself, and did so many things that are not loving to me.

however when I went to UNI, the four years went by very quick (it was so busy ..the curriculum is insane) so I didn't even have time to think about suicide (yes I was that busy in studies + school),

but I was hit with depression a few months back because of a heartbreak and my dad who always likes to yell swear and spread ugliness in the atmosphere, but his ugly words have become more prominent these days. even my career is appearing very hazy.

tbh I have kind of lost faith in men, both looking at the heartbreak and looking at how my dad is. my career is the only thing that actually brings me light, and now that appears hazy and I just feel helpless and the thoughts like suicide are making a return.
