Considering that Lions are native to Africa; and the Persian Lion native to Gujurat; how did Guru Gobind Singh Ji know of this species?

Where/when would he have encountered them? In poetry? Stories?

The gurus traveled many places and saw lions and other wildlife, as we'll as heard of them in stories. During the Battle of Bhagani in Uttarakhand, India, Guru Gobind Singh killed a lion since it had eaten many members of a village, so he bravely encountered and killed it.

God is good!
