It happens to me too. I think it depends on your emotions.
I find that we're always surrounded by vibrations, but feeling them depends on how alert and attuned we are. That's why we will feel kirtan even if we don't understand it, because the Gurus wrote gurbani to create certain vibrations. That's also how we can tell if someone is overjoyed or depressed, depending on what vibrations they are giving off. When you do jaap, your mind becomes attuned to feel vibrations around you or in you. I'm sure there is much more to this, but this is what I understand.
