When I go to the gurdwara and do mata thekh, i bow in front of Maharaj ji and then sit down but I have noticed a lot of sikhs go around Guru Granth Sahib Ji and then do mata thekh again. Why do they do this and what is the purpose? Am I not doing mata thekh properly?
I am not sure if I am correct as per the sikh maryada, But I will like to share my views on this.
Going around the guru means sacrificing yourself to the guru. So when we do the parikarma, it reflects that I sacrifice my everything to my guru. Its a common tradition in India saying - vaare jaana. Like you bow your head to the guru to show respect, it is the same way.
Please correct me If I am wrong.
