My daughter has read in some article that Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Jee has stated that there are ten AVATARS of AKAL PURAKH mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib. And those AVATARS were of Lord Vishnu.

I think that they were our ten Guru's.

We want to clarify that what are the actual facts.

Please instruct us and properly guide us in this matter.

Thanks & Regards

In Chobis Avtaar in the Dasam Granth, Guru Gobind Singh Ji is referring to the common knowledge of the time, i.e. the Vedas and the Smirtis (including the Gita.) This knowledge was commonly understood by most people at the time and our Guru Sahibian used many, many such references in Gurbani. The Siri Guru Granth Sahib is also known as the "Siri Ved" because it surpasses all previous vedas.

As Guru Ji says in the verses, the most famous of the divine incarnations are Rama, whose life is depicted in the Ramayana, and Krishna, whose life is depicted in the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana.

The ten avatars of Vishnu to which Guru Ji is referring are:

  1. Matsya, the fish, appeared in the Sat Yuga and represents the beginning of life.

  2. Kurma, the tortoise, appeared in the Sat Yuga and represents a human embryo just growing tiny legs, with a huge belly.

  3. Varaha, the boar, appeared in the Sat Yuga and represents a human embryo which is almost ready. Its features are visible.

  4. Narasimha, the Man-Lion (Nara = man, simha = lion) also appeared in the Sat Yuga and represents a newborn baby, hairy and cranky, bawling and full of blood. He is regarded as the greatest and most powerful avatar.

  5. Vamana, the Dwarf, appeared in the Treta Yuga. He represents a young child.

  6. Parashurama, Rama with the axe, appeared in the Treta Yuga. He represents both an angry young man and a grumpy old man simultaneously.

  7. Rama, Sri Ramachandra, the prince and king of Ayodhya, appeared in the Treta Yuga. He represents a married man with children. Regarded as the second greatest avatar.

  8. Krishna (meaning 'the one who attracts.") This word is also used in sense of having 'black' skin.

  9. The 9th incarnation, Buddha, is the one who put forward his knowledge born of contemplation on suffering in the world.

  10. Kalki ("Eternity", or "time", or "The Destroyer of impurity") who is expected to appear at the end of Kali Yuga, the time period in which we currently exist. The dawn of the present phase of the Kali Yuga was 3606 B.C. The middle was 582 B.C. The twilight began in A.D. 1939 and the end of the Kali Yug will be A.D. 2442. So, right now in 2012, we have 430 years left in this Kali Yug.

Hi just wanted to tell you that vishnu does exist, but his existence is also dependent on the supreme Akal Purkh. Vishnu is also the son of Akal purkh just like us (verse 30, Japji Sahib ji). He is nothing without the supreme Akal purkh, all his powers are goverened by the true Akal purkh. In simpler terms he is ordered to perform his duties by the formless akal purkh. Bhrma shiv who are actually brothers of vishnu are similar to him and they are also obligated to perform their duties. Just like us all three of them are bound by time i.e. They'll also die some day. They do exist in a different world designed for them. So when avtar happens they happen with the divine intervention of akal purkh, where vishnu serves mere a medium for these avtars. Avtars are just a small part of divne formless energy, WAHEGURU. A True Guru is not an Avtar he's the duvine himself. The formless energy, Waheguru( the Akal purkh) is the limitless supreme soul. Within guru nanak the union of his human soul and the entire supreme soul happened, which is the perfect union. Upon the worldly death of the first beloved guru, this unionised soul was passed onto the second guru on so on. Therefore currently this pefect unionised soul sits within the guru granth sahib maharaj and the words interwoven with love as shabads into it.

This is where Guru Gobind Singh ji quote, which also forms the ardas dohra " AGYA BAHI AKAL KI, TABHE CHALAYO PANTH ; SABH SIKHAN TO HUKAM HAI , GURU MANYO GRANTH ; GURU GRANTH JI MANYO PRAGAT GURA KI DEH, JO PRABH KO MILBO CHAHE KHOJ SHABAD ME LE."

Akaal Purakh has no incarnations, the whole Universe is Waheguru Incarnate Himself.

ਗੁਰ ਜੈਸਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੇਵ ॥ There is no deity equal to the Guru.

ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਸੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Whoever has good destiny inscribed on his forehead, applies himself to seva - selfless service.

first of all Guruka Singh brother they are 24 Avtars of Vishnu which Guru Sahib ji has mentioned in Sri Dasam Granth.

Can you please ask your daughter on which Ang Guru has mentioned? Or where she has read it?

Is Guru Jee Avtar of Vaheguru? Response by Bhai Bijla Singh

I will try to keep it as brief as possible. Word Satguru in Gurbani is used for the Sikh Gurus and Waheguru only. No one else can have this status. Guru and Waheguru are in union. Gurbani says that there is no difference between God and Guru.

Bhai Gurdas Ji says:

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ॥ (Vaars)

Being same means being united. Whether Guru and Waheguru are identical, it is dependent on the context. So I would say with certainty that Guru and God are the same meaning they are united. Within Satguru, light of God shines fully. This is why Satguru can unite humans with God as well. Further, Satguru is not a human because Satguru being one with God is free from death and birth. This means Satguru Is not a physical body but the very message that is revealed.

The term messenger in Semitic and Sikh traditions is interpreted differently. Satguru has all the powers granted by God. Satguru is always in union with God and therefore anything He preaches comes to pass as revelation. The communication link is never broken or interrupted. Satguru never speaks out of ignorance or acts against the true path. He is always in tune to Waheguru’s Will. Revelation through him is not passive and he is certainly not serving as a mere tool for the deliverance of the divine message. Guru Sahib says He is speaking as God is directing Him meaning that the source of revelation is God and the message is not diluted or altered in any way. Satguru is perfect and practices the truth whether the revelation has come for humans or not. He never sins, does not hate and is fearless.

Mohammad, for example, was never in direct communion with God nor was he united with Him. This is why in Islam union with God or even His vision is not possible. Islamic God is separate from creation. Even in heaven, the unity does not exist though the souls become eternal. Mohammad allegedly received messages through Gabriel. He made mistakes which were corrected by supposed revelation. A messenger in Islam is someone who receives messages passively. Mohammad always waited for Gabriel to bring the injunctions which means Mohammad remained ignorant of the very religion he was supposed to preach as much as anyone else until Gabriel brought to him the instructions. This means, Mohammad committed sins. Although Islam says their messenger is exempt from punishments but it however implies that he committed sins ... (more)

I am a Hindu and taken aback by your claims here a'bit about Rama and Krishna. I have a lot of respect for Sikh Guru's and love to read, pray, and meditate on Gurbani of Guru's. Although I trust that Sikh Guru ji were in communion with god, I don't believe that nobody else before their time could be before their time. If there has to be god, he is under no restriction to be in union with someone less than 500 years. God always send Satguru If that was the case then, guruji wouldn't have included Baani from Kabir, Namdev, Ravidas, Dhanna etc. These Bhagats had a lot of devotion to Lord Krishna and in my mind treated him at godly level. Let's be frank

...continued...they believed that only a certain caste can reach God or meditate on God but Guru Nanak Dev Ji cleared out all misunderstandings that had been created by people. Also the Holy Scriptures talked about living a truthful life, however, Gurbani teaches how to communicate directly to God.

Gurbani only talks about God and how to be reunited with God....

You are exactly right! Pay no attention to haters. Those who are afraid, love to live in a black and white world. It feels safe to them.

In Gurbani God has been given many names including Krishan....and God has always been there and will always be there...Aad sach jugaad sach hai bhi sach nanak hosi bhi sach...the difference was that before Guru Nanak Dev Ji the world was in doubts about so many different things: caste, colour...

Goodness we really are doing the opposite of what the message is we are complicating it. Message us simpke but we get hung up on technicality. Guru is above all 33 billion gods. He is their teacher he is Waheguru that is the omnipresent supreme divine light aka Aad Shakti, this shakti is what made all gods and goddesses and YOU!

What this means is Aad Shakti waheguru and Guru are one. Waheguru is omni present meaning he is everywhere we can call him by whatever name but it is the spark in you it is a part of every living thing. That is what made your heart beat yes waheguru did. That is why waheguru and Guru is one and that is what we are to be at one with God inside us (maan mander) your body is the temple keep it clean maintain it. Maan is God concept with God in you! He strum along to his beat his will not your own.

First Guru was Guru he was guru Nanak that divine light passed on to each of the 10 gurus. Guru Govind Singh ji was sent by waheguru divine light but he was called upon by waheguru Aad Shakti when he was Dusht Daman in that is how Brahma and shiv all were but out of 10 gurus none is specified which God came as which guru etc, why because people like us overthink the message is simple body is temple clean it soul is spark of God connect with it with naam simran use baani when in doubt to understand how to live properly meaning do not lie cheat hurt abuse others because God is in others too etc. Everyone can connect with God no matter color creed etc.

Kurma avatar is the second avatar of Lord Vishnu subsequent the Matsya Avatar. The term karma means Tortoise, plus the story of the Kurma Avatar of Vishnu has its start in the Puranas. The Kurma Avatar was reserved by Lord Vishnu to aid the Gods victory the amrita otherwise elixir of life above the demons through the mixing of the sea. All the stories stated in the Puranas have a more profound significance. Likewise, the Kurma Avatar story has a deep meaning that has to be understood.

[Kurma avatar- The furtive and the meaning](https://spiritsecret.com/kurma-avatar-importance-kurma-avatar-story/)

According to the puranic story, the Gods plus Demons had mixed the ocean to get the tonic of life. The churning is represented by a literal tow of war among the Gods plus Demons in the story. The sea is evocative of the deep awareness or the humanoid mind. The Gods plus demons themselves represent our private good as well as satanic tendencies. The tug of war signifies the struggle in our own selves to select among the good plus bad karma in our daily life. And by the choices that we create by our individual free will, it is determined whether we acquire a chance toward taste the tonic of life (represented through liberation from samsara) or continue mortal.

In the puranic story, the churning twig is Mount Mandara that is used toward churn the sea. Mount Mandarasignifies the sum entire of all our hard work in this life that are used toward churn our own thought procedure and grow our mind. While the Mount Mandara starts sinking in the middle ocean (representing our own desolation in life), Lord Vishnu takes the shape of a tortoise plus attaches himself to the base of stop the mountain from descending. Also in the story, at one point, the peak increases higher (representing our own vanity) and the Mount Mandara goes out of variety for it toward churn the sea. It is over Lord Vishnu who takes the form of an eagle as well as sits on topmost to balance the weightiness and comprehensive the churning.

KURMA AVATAR- THE PURANIC STORY The story starts with a meeting among Sage Durvasaplus Lord Indra. Sage Durvasa as a mark of esteem offers a circlet of flowers toward Lord Indra. The monarch of Gods, Lord Indra who is placed on his elephant, Airavata, takes the circlet of flowers plus places it on the forehead of the elephant. The elephant takings the garland as well as throws it downcast on the earth.

The chief of mentors Durvasa, annoyed at this discourteous treatment of his gift, announces to the King of Gods that his realm will be ruined.

Fate acts to accomplish the words of Sage Durvasaplus the Asuras (demons) announce war on the Gods. The Gods want to taste the fluid of immortality plus approach Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu counsels the Gods to churn the sea along with the Demons as well as offer them a part of ... (more)

Have you forgotten the Sikh way, are you to be confusing our dharma with the dharma known as Hindu, I respect the Hindu belief of "Vishnu having 10 incarnations". but I don't believe in Hinduism, In Waheguru the true being has no color, caste, creed, incarnation, gender (people say he, because in the english language it is rude to say it, and if we say she, people will assume Waheguru is female, due to few faiths using she), Waheguru has none of these things, Waheguru is light, and this light is for all people, regardless which religion they follow, as Waheguru has no faith, and any who should dare say that any human being was Waheguru, shall fall in the deep pits of the place known as hell, said by the legendary 10th Guru himself, and the legendary 11th Guru known to the rest of the common world of non-sikhs and Sikhs, as Sri Guru Granth Sahib, also states there are no incarnations of Waheguru, and all you need to do is read the first page of the Japji, known as the universal, (yes universal, and did not say Sikh, due to Sikhi bani being morals for all faiths, and people with no faith,) it is known to all as the universal mool mantar, and this will lead to success, doesn't matter if you are Sikh, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jew, or any smaller faith, (in #'s, as all of the religions are equal to Waheguru), maybe even being an Atheist, or Agnostics, (because even they may obtain spiritual blessings in the universal Sikh path,) it says Ek omkar= Waheguru is one Satnam= Waheguru's name is true Karta Purakh= Waheguru is the creator, (and I don't truly know what Purakh means, in Sikhi, gurbani should and only be true, forgive me) Nirbhao = Waheguru is fearless Nirvar = Waheguru hates none Akal Murat = Beyond time is Waheguru Ajooni = Never to be born is Waheguru Saibhan = Waheguru had been self created, (There is more to this definition, but I can't describe this well in english, forgive me) Gur Prassad = Waheguru may be obtained with the Guru's grace, (And only the universal Guru of the successor of the Guru Nanak, Guru Angad, Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das, Guru Arjun Dev, Guru Hargobind, Guru Har Rai, Guru Harkrishan, Guru Tegh Bahadur, Guru Gobind Singh, and the final and current one on line, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji,), (Anyone of any religion can go to the gurdwara, so no one can dare to make the excuse that they have not met Waheguru, all you need is Guru's blessing.)
