Please bare with me before you judge me based on the above title.

When i was 17 years old (now 28) my mum was very close with a, now known to be fake, baba. This individual used to take masses of cash from us and would keep evil away! Now, this person sat my mum down and said that her eldest son (me) would have to take amrit within the next week or else he would get thrown infront of a truck when crossing the road, and that after he takes amrit he would have to pay £160 a month for his protection. I know it sounds awful. My mother then instructed me that i would be taking amrit in that week, with immidiate effect id be giving up meat and would be waking up and doing paat etc. this was quite the shock to the system for me. My father didnt believe in this baba and was shocked that id done it. For years i paid out cash to this person before refusing to. i love my faith but i wasnt ready for the committment.

Today, i havent eaten meat or drank alcohol but am questioning why i did take it when i wasnt ready. I wasnt allowed to go to uni because of this babas advice, i wasnt allowed to go travelling, see certain friends, i got married early because of this person, to someone i didnt know till the day i married her, now we have two children. She is a wonderful person, but we are not compatible at all.

I do not want to be someone i am not. I have lived all my life the way others have wanted me to. I love my faith but i struggle with the amritdhari lifestyle. I will continue to do seva, but i need to denounce my amrit and do it again when im ready, from my heart not someone elses. Unfortunantly, the same may have to apply for my marriage. I care for my wife, she is a saint in my eyes, but i cant make chemistry between us.

How do i make it better?

Ps please dont judge me, thats gods job.

Well it seems like you are regretting being forced to take Amrit, now you have a decision to make do you want to continue as a amritdhari or not.

Look if I was in your place then I would ask myself this question since I was forced to take Amrit is it even worth it for me to continue as a amritdhari if I am doing it for namesake. If your answer is doing it for namesake then you might as well quit Amrit.

But I do not think this baba will is talking about True Amrit. The baba is fake, and so is what he is doing

That is really a surprising story. I am sorry, but you are in UK I guess with the pounds. And to think all this has happened is really sad. I know you have made mistakes in the past. But your Amrit and your wife is part of your destiny, part of who you are. You can make all the wrongs right in your life. Don't try breaking bonds with wife and Amrit or it may turn out to be another mistake in life.

look your not seeing things from his angle he was forced to take amrit therefore he should quit amrit and stop living as aamritdhari once and for all.

I am very sorry to hear this, and do Ardaas to Guru Sahib ji to make everything better for you. It is wrong and should not happen.

First of all, I do not think the "Amrit" the baba is trying to address is the True Amrit which Guru Gobind Singh ji gave Khalsa. I think like this because NO ONE CAN BE FORCED TO TAKE AMRIT!!! Guru Sahib NEVER said to force anyone! Amrit does not have all these pakhands of - giving money and protection because Guru Sahib always protects us in every breath.

I would suggest you to do Ardaas to your own True Father - Waheguru to help you so that this does not happen. I do not think anybody will get anything from fake Amrit, but it makes situations worse.

If nothing works out at all, I would suggest maybe tell your mom that you will take Amrit but not now? You just want to be ready. And if still nothing works out, then I would suggest you want to take Real Amrit that Panj Peyaare give - from Gurdwara and not from teh fake baba. I am sorry, I dont want to sound like a force or anything. I was just trying to think what could best work for you. And if you happend to take the True Amrit, you can tell your story to Panj Peyare before takin Amrit and they can help you. Just saying that, you dont start paath or wake up early at once if you take Amrit. You take your time to learn it. But yes, meat and alchoal is a no no.

I hope things work out. Do Ardaas to Guru Sahib ji

If you are really not feeling you can not continue as an amritdhari anymore you might as well leave your lifestyle as a amritdhari.

If you are really not feeling you can not continue as an amritdhari anymore you might as well leave your lifestyle as a amritdhari. Look there is no point doing something if it is going to make you regret your decision in the first place of taking it. My own personal advice since the concept of amrit was forced down your throat and you dont feel like you go on living a life of amritdhari just for namesake; you might as well leave your lifestyle of amritdhari and do something where your doing just for namesake but you feel strongly about. If you want to leave this way of lifestyle and not regret your decision you might as well do it as soon as possible then live your life of regret. In life one should do what one feels passionate about not what others force or make you do.

correct, I know you are a 14 year old kid, and it is hard for someone of your age to understand, I am only one year older but this is the trut, I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IN ANY OTHER GURU THAN THE 11 SIKH GURUS, but for the wife I will try helping them understand the true way of life, because I chose them

and yes you your self should of rose to the oppertunaty and shown the old fool what khalsa really was and what he was doing there is only ten gurus and one jhot dhun dhun sahib sri guru granth sahib ji adh darbur, dasam darbur, and sri sarbloh darbur

sukhmeet singh you have undermined me because of my age but i fully see the situation but i have not judged it . why would you refuse to believe in any other gurus when there are only the sikh gurus all other gurus dont exist for the one who calls himself guru is not. only the one who has been ordained by god as a title has truly earned it. i understand the situation, i am younger then you so it is probably hard for you to understand that knowlegde is recieved at any age look at baba buddha ji and sri guru harkrishan sahib ji.

i am not personally attacking you but dont be foolish khalsa fateh

It must be very difficult without the support of your family, but remember true family is God. This wordly family has been given to us as built-in Sangat. We have been put together because of our past lifetimes, and in this life we are meant to reach God together.

strongKaur gravatar imagestrongKaur ( 2017-01-01 21:46:57 -0500 )edit

Unfortunately because the family members come from different life forms, they have varying understandings of our purpose and therefore some, like you, will become Amritdhari, others may refuse to have anything to do with religion.

strongKaur gravatar imagestrongKaur ( 2017-01-01 21:47:07 -0500 )edit

Due to their lack of knowledge/interest they are sucked in by the 5 dhoots and they are unable to be able to look past maya. My advice would be to continue to keep your faith. Forget about their opinions and their attitudes

strongKaur gravatar imagestrongKaur ( 2017-01-01 21:47:15 -0500 )edit

Life your life well and maybe or maybe not one day they too will be inspired by you. Idk how old you are but maybe at some point you will be able to move away from their influence, and meet some other Sangat who is supportive of your path.

strongKaur gravatar imagestrongKaur ( 2017-01-01 21:48:15 -0500 )edit

do you have friends who are Amritdhari? If not maybe try attending camps, etc. for finding some people to support you. If you don't have family who understands it would be nice to have other people to talk to about Sikhi.
