Hi, I am a 25 year old Jatt girl and am dating a 25 year old rajput boy. We are both punjabi, both follow Sikhism. We are not amritdhari. We went to grad school together and both have MBAs. My parents are amritdhari and against inter-caste marriages. My cousin got married to a Kamboj boy and everyone looked down upon it. She was less educated than him so people blamed it on her education. They only believe inter-caste works where both the boy and girl are amritdhari. I have tried to get over him, but I truly feel like he is my soul mate!! Another thing--he has bought a house in Vancouver (he is originally from Chandigarh) to try to balance out economical factors (I was born & raised in Vancouver). My parents are getting rishtas for me of doctors/lawyers/businessmen. They have paid for all of my education--am I being selfish for staying with my boyfriend? PLEASE HELP & SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES!! THANK YOU!

Waheguru jio,

I am not judging your parents and i'm younger then them so have less experience but honestly, if they're amritdhari, they should be last in lane to believe in caste system. According to the sikh rehat maryada, a sikh girl should marry a sikh man, so, if he's sikh (believes in guru sahib ji), then there should be no problem. Try to tell your parents about his education, wealth and virtues, they should agree. "Vin boleya sab kich jaanda", so just pray to god and stay content, everything will alright. You're not selfish and by the sound of things, you both sound like a great couple. Also, maybe try asking him to take amrit (if he's ready), that will make your issues better. However, honestly speaking, you're on the right track and Waheguru ji will help you stay strong. Bhul Chuk Muaf.

The parents will get over it....if it makes you happy, why are they so miserable.
