I may say that NAAM is evrything to me. But that doesnot answer what it really means.

I may also say that we cannot describe naam for that is beyond our comprehension. Still, what is this concept.

Why such emphasis is given to NAAM.

Are all places where HAR ka NAAM , NAAM used in gurbaani refering to the same thing or is it that this word is used as a placeholder/metaphor and means different in different shabads.

When do we call out someone's name? When we have to talk to them or when we miss them. Same is for Har ka Naam. If we have Har ka Naam in our heart, then we always have His Remembrance, we are missing His Darshan. I feel this idea fits in many Shabads. Other thing is Naam is identity where there is no identity. We may be unable to describe Akaal Purakh but yes when we say Har Har we understand. Finally I think Gurbani has some deep and unique quality associated with every 'Naam' of the Lord. As we repeat those qualities and focus on the Naam, those qualities should become us. And more we repeat, more we remember Him, more strength we get to accept His Will at every moment of our life. And if we are constantly thinking about Him, remembering Him, this worldly Maya cannot bother us.

har(waheguru, god)= human-main(I, ego) and NAAM = na, main(I) meaning, no ego so when there is no self, I, main, me and all that's left is HAR(waheguru) himself. NAAM is MAN(human being) and man is GOD himself, there is no difference beetween the three.

The whole of Guru Granth Sahib Ji is about NAAM and how we can merge into NAAM...simply because as a HUMAN our purpose is to do simran and merge into Akal Purakh...

Asaa Mahlla 5: Bhaee paraapat maanukh dehureeaa. This human body has been given to you.

Gobind milan ki ehh teri bariyaa. This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.

Avar kaaj terai kitaai na kaam. Nothing else will work.

Mil saadh sangat bhaj keval NAAM. Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam.
