Are fear and ego related?

What a beautiful question! Thank you. Ego is the only issue.

There are two basic kinds of people: People of love and people of fear.

People of love have tasted Naam, even though they may not have known it by that name. As Guru Ji says in the Laavan:

Sahj anand hoaa vaddbhaagi man-i har-i har-i meetthaa laaia. It is your destiny to live in peace and bliss and love the Naam. Hari, Hari is sweet to me.

For people of love (Sadhsangat) their touchstone is that peace and love.

People of fear (manmukh) are stuck in survival mode. Instead of experiencing ONE, they experience ME and NOT ME.

That means that the ego is always under threat from "not me."

By Guru Ji's kirpa, a manmukh can be touched by his grace and become his sevadar.

When one realizes that Guru Ji "has everything covered" and that everything is unfolding in Waheguru's hukam (even though we may not understand the "why" at the moment) then we are able to let go into complete trust. In that moment all fear dissolves away.

Our natural state is joy (anand.) If we are not experiencing that all the time, it just means we have some work to do on ourselves to get to the place where we can surrender completely.

Again, from the Laavan:

Har-i doojarri laav satigur purakh milaaia bali raam jio. In the second Round, feel the sweetness of the True Guru in the presence of Beloved Ram

Nirbhau bhai man hoe haumai mail gavaaia bali raam jio. As you go beyond fear, your ego dies in the presence of Beloved Ram.

Nirmal bhau paaia har-i gun gaaiaa har-i v-ekhai raam hadoor-e. In your innocence, the qualities of Hari fill you. The One lives within you.

Har-i aatam raam pasaaria suaami sarab rahiaa bhrpoor-e. The same Hari that is in your soul is inside of everything.
