I have been told something and was wondering if this was a myth or not. My family told me that Chandi di var written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji should only be done and heard by a amritdhari or highly religious Sikh and if it isn't the person who did it lose their mental state and go crazy. I asked them why they go crazy and my family said that when Singhs use to go to war they would use Chandi di var to get energy and josh in battlefield and if a random person does Chandi di var and he is not amritdhari he will get extra energy causing him to go metal. Is this true ? I know it is a powerful prayer but can it cause such damage?

It is unfortunate that many amritdhari sikhs have become extensions of brahmins. The idea that only amritdhari sikhs can read certain baanis or perform certain rituals is exactly what the brahmins want the sikhs to believe. If you follow only one guru - Guru Granth Sahib - you will find how an extreme ideology on the right has disenchanted young sikhs as much as the propaganda on the other side that any form of discipline like maintaining kesh and not eating meat is just another ritual. The way of a Sikh is what Guru Nanak taught through his life examples. You will get answers to your queries when you read Gurbani and accept that there is only one Guru - Guru Granth Sahib; all your questions will be answered by understanding Guru Granth Sahib and you will not have to rely on any heresay.
