You are doing nothing wrong. Yes, Yes, and Yes you can be a Sikh. Sikhism was or rather is meant for the whole humanity not just for the Indians. Any person of any nationality, skin color, gender or of any faith can become a Sikh.

White American person can become a Sikh, the Chinese, the Black, the Hindu or a Jew any person who wishes to follow the teachings of the Sikh Gurus is free to embrace Sikhism.
